Why Mayflower?
You may be curious as to the name, Mayflower Publishing. I hope to unpack this more comprehensively in the future, but for now, this is why we chose it.
My History With America
From my earliest memories, I had a fascination with America. Perhaps that's why I went there on my own when I was 16 years old and continued to visit regularly until a few years ago. As a child, I was rebuked by my mother for speaking with an American accent! I lived in New York for five years and moved to Washington DC the year before I married, in 1989, until I returned permanently to England in 1993. I have preached in the majority of the States and collaborated with many of the friends I made during my time in America.
The Mayflower Voyage
Being an Englishman with such deep American connections, I was attracted to studying the history of the Mayflower journey and the extraordinary courage of the pilgrims who landed in Plymouth Bay, Massachusetts, in 1620. Over 30 millions people can trace their ancestry to the 102 pilgrims aboard that ship.
Among the items on board that ship was William Bradford's 1592 Geneva Bible. The Word of God had travelled across the seas from the Old World to the New. These pilgrims played an important role in establishing the Word of God in America.
Mayflower combines my love of the land of my birth, Great Britain, and the land of my youth, the United States of America. It speaks of my deep love for the Word of God. May God continue to strengthen the spiritual bonds between these great lands, that His Kingdom would be establish and His Gospel would be preached far and wide.
